MEDIA ADVISORY
KAIROS Hosts WCC Global Ecumenical Network on Migration Meeting
September 26, 2008
For Immediate Release
(Toronto) KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives will
welcome delegates from around the world as it hosts the World Council
of Churches’ Global Ecumenical Network on Migration (GENM)
regional meeting being held in Toronto from September 29 to
October 3, 2008.
Participants from Australia, the Caribbean, Latin America, North
America and the Pacific Islands will join members of the KAIROS
community in Canada including its Refugee and Migration Working
Group, board and staff members.
The GENM enables members drawn from churches, church-related organizations
and ecumenical bodies working on migration to learn from each others
experiences, develop a global analysis, set shared priorities and
pool their resources to advocate on these issues at the United
Nations and with other organizations addressing migration. The
aim is to deepen understanding of global migration and have a greater
impact on national and global policy development.
Panel presentations and regional reports at the meeting will
include a theological reflection on migration, the visibility/non-visibility
of migrant churches, bilateral relationships among GENM members
and key challenges in the different regions.
The meeting is being held at the Quality Hotel & Suites, Toronto
Airport East. A full agenda and coordinates follows the signature
below.
