KAIROS PETITION

Thanks for your support!
We've been receiving an outpouring of support from all corners of the country, as well as the world, and it's this encouragement that gives us heart!

In response to the cuts to funding, and to some of the criticisms alluded to by Minister Bev Oda, KAIROS has prepared a brief PDF, 'KAIROS E-Kit on the CIDA Cuts', with which you can inform yourself on the salient issues.

1) Send letters...

to International Cooperation Minister Bev Oda; the Prime Minister, and your Member of Parliament. Ask your church to do the same. Use your own experiences and views to shape the letter. We have some suggested points on our CIDA Action page. Also, have a look through our 'Briefing Notes' in the left hand column of this page.

The Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, pm@pm.gc.ca, or harper.s@parl.gc.ca;
phone 613 992 4211, fax 613 941 6900
The Hon. Bev Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, oda.b@parl.gc.ca;
phone 613 992 2792, fax 613 992 2794
Margaret Biggs, President of CIDA,
Margaret.Biggs@acdi-cida.gc.ca
and info@acdi-cida.gc.ca;
phone 819 997 7951, fax 819 953 6088

Please copy your letters to KAIROS at info@kairoscanada.org.

2) Call your MP’s office and express your concerns. Ask for a meeting...

We’ve heard that many MPs and their staffs LIKE talking to people! They get tired of e-mails too! Your polite and determined persistence in getting a face-to-face meeting is a great chance to share your concern for global justice with your elected representative. We can match you up with others in your area, so drop us a line (info@kairoscanada.org).

3) Bring a sign-on letter to Sunday service/Mass/meeting...

Address it to the Member of Parliament for the riding in which your church or meeting is located. You can download the letter here.

4) Sign our electronic petition...

and share it with everyone. Go viral! Put the link on your Facebook page and Tweet it! This is an easy, fast action to share with your friends who may not have as much background on the situation as you have.

5) Tell your friends about this situation...

Read our Southern partners’ letters. If there’s one good thing about this crisis, it’s that more people are learning about the excellent human rights and environmental work of our 21 partners around the world.

6) Already written a letter and called your MP? ...

Then help us keep up the engagement with CIDA by responding to their form letter. CIDA's stock response implies that KAIROS is ineffective or unaccountable. Remind CIDA of our excellent CIDA evaluation (the link is in the sidebar of this newsletter) and our 35-year history of collaboration. Please use our briefing notes (they're all in the sidebar!) and your own excellent analysis to respond. (We no longer need you to forward replies from CIDA and the Prime Minister’s Office unless you receive something very different or new!)

7) Monitor the media...

If you see articles about KAIROS, either on web or in print, share your views. Write positive web comment or a letter to the editor. Tell folks about your own involvement. (Here's a sample of the media coverage so far).

If you have any questions, please write to Julie Graham, Education and Campaigns Coordinator, Dignity and Rights at jgraham@kairoscanada.org.
