Hello friends, Beth Lorimer here, the Ecological Justice Program Coordinator at KAIROS.
I bring you greetings from the Kichi Sībī Watershed in unceded Algonquin Territory in what is otherwise known as Ottawa.
It might not seem like spring is here quite yet, but there have been some telltale signs, like the birdsong that I hear in the morning, around sunrise, the ice breaking up on the rivers and waterways that weave their way through the city, and the little green shoots that are starting to peek through the snow in my garden and on the branches of the trees in my neighborhood.
This year, as Easter approaches, we are also preparing to celebrate the Earth. Easter Sunday will mark the beginning of Earth Week this year. This convergence is a significant time for us to reflect on the interconnectedness of Creation and the special time of renewal.
The story of resurrection invites us to reflect on a broader collective resurrection. The Easter message inspires us to act for the renewal of the planet. As people and planet continue to face multiple crises, Easter reminds us to act with conviction and hope to build a sustainable, equitable and just future for all of Creation.
This week, I was reminded of a quote by Wendell Berry, which says, “It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work”. The path doesn’t always seem clear these days, but I know that I get to take steps forward with all of you.
I am so proud of the work that we get to do together The work of faithful action for justice, human rights, and ecological justice. Hope lives in these faithful actions and the seeds we plant today for an equitable and just future for all.
Thank you for all the actions and gifts you bring to this movement. They are significant acts of hope in these uncertain times. This Easter season, I invite you to give generously to the work of KAIROS.
