KAIROS has long been concerned that the construction of the Site C dam on the Peace River in British Columbia will violate Indigenous Rights and exacerbate ecological damage. Accordingly KAIROS Executive Director Jennifer Henry has written an open letter to the Prime Minister of Canada and the Premier of British Columbia urging them to suspend construction of the Site C dam until the Indigenous peoples whose lands and ways of life will be affected are able to exercise their right to free, prior and informed consent in keeping with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and there has been a thorough, arms-length review by the BC Utilities Commission.
