Let Justice Roll: Campaign update for April 2017
Last month, KAIROS along with Mennonite Church Canada (Indigenous Relations) and Canadian Baptist Congregations, launched the campaign Let Justice Roll: Implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples to ensure that the Government of Canada takes the necessary steps to revise federal legislation so that all relevant legislation is consistent with the UN Declaration. In addition to a mini-website on the campaign, we also created a campaign resource guide which includes a theological reflection, FAQs on the UN Declaration, resources, and actions and activities for congregations to take in support of the campaign. We recognize that the journey to full adoption and implementation of the UN Declaration will consist of many small steps, and every month we will send out a campaign update to highlight different resources, activities, and other initiatives across the country that are living into this goal. New Resource
For congregations that want to incorporate the campaign into their worship services, we have produced a bulletin insert that contains a call & response prayer based on Call to Action 48, which calls upon churches and faith groups to adopt and implement the UN Declaration.
Faithful Action
Starting on Sunday, April 23, 2017 a group of people set out from Kitchener, ON and will walk 600 km to Ottawa in support of the adoption and implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. With an age range from 9 months to 87 years, walkers will be stopping at various places along the way for public teach-ins and other actions.
