A cry for peace – statement of solidarity of the Jolo Bombing
On January 27, 2019, in one of the deadliest attacks in the Philippines in recent years, a bombing of a church in Jolo, Sulu, Mindanao, during a Sunday Mass, claimed the lives of more than 20 worshipers, including civilians and soldiers around the area, injuring 112 people as well. In the following statement, KAIROS partner the National Council of Churches of the Philippines (NCCP) expresses solidarity for the victims and their families, calling for an impartial investigation and peace talks that address the root causes of this deadly conflict.
The persistent and continuing cry for peace in Mindanao calls for solidarity and
immense sincerity among churches and the faithful to put their acts together in
working for peace based on justice. Even more so, it amplifies the urgent call for
the government to deal with peace issues and pave the way in addressing the
roots of armed conflict in the area.
