Indigenous Peoples have always been changemakers

From resistance to resurgence, our communities are filled with leaders, healers, artists, Knowledge Keepers, land protectors, and visionaries shaping a better future — not just for Indigenous peoples, but for all.

Indigenous changemakers are reclaiming languages, reviving ceremonies, leading climate justice, breaking barriers in politics, medicine, education, law, and the arts — and inspiring generations to come.

This Indigenous History Month, we honour the trailblazers — past and present — who walk with courage, culture, and conviction.

Here are just a few Indigenous changemakers to learn about and celebrate:

  • Dr. Cindy Blackstock (Gitxsan) – Advocate for Indigenous children’s rights
  • Autumn Peltier (Wiikwemkoong First Nation) – International water protector
  • Jody Wilson-Raybould (We Wai Kai Nation) – Legal and political leader
  • Tantoo Cardinal (Métis/Cree) – Trailblazing Indigenous actress
  • Qajaq Robinson – Inuk lawyer and former TRC Commissioner
  • Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Legacy – Honouring reconciliation through music and education

Tag an Indigenous changemaker who inspires you. Let’s lift each other up. Let’s tell our stories. Let’s make history.
