Additionally, helping us collect signatures shows our government and the international finance community that Canadians want international debt justice. Tens of thousands of people have signed so far; check here for an updated count. Dozens of groups and organizations have helped us get to this point. Help us reach our goal of 100,000 signatures. This is about impact, not just statistics.
We call for debt cancellation in relation to the ecological debt owed by Global North countries to the Indigenous peoples and the Global South. In order to build political will for change, confronting economic justice and ecological debt need to be top of mind again. We want people to understand that global debt has never been higher and that much of the debt owed by countries is unjust.

The last major debt cancelation effort – 25 years ago – gathered 640,000 Canadian signatures. We know that energy still exists. Sharing the petition through your newsletters and social media will help Canadians speak out again. Sample messaging is included below. - Help grow the movement locally.
Our strongest engagement has come from in-person conversations — in congregations, community spaces and events. Organizers across the country are hosting workshops and gatherings, bringing together diverse allies and sparking deeper dialogue on inequality, climate and migration.
