Women leaders and male allies at the center of conflict and crisis

16-Days-Day 2
16-Days-Day 2

The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) reminds me of the profound role of faith-based peacebuilders in conflicts resolutions.

I was recently in Entebbe, Uganda for the regional meeting of the Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa (FECCLAHA). There, Priscilla Ajak, SSCC’s National Women’s coordinator highlighted how SSCC continues to champion trauma healing, community reconciliation and women’s leadership in peacebuilding and climate justice.

SSCC is a KAIROS partner and brings these approaches and expertise to their work in the Women Peacebuilders at the Nexus of Climate, Conflict and Gender project in South Sudan. Priscilla also highlighted the importance of male allies in the work and community, who are formed and educated to work hand-in-hand with women grassroots leaders to fight the good fight for women empowerment. During these 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, let the work of SSCC be a powerful reminder that women’s leadership and empowerment can create real, lasting change in communities affected by violence. When supported, protected and empowered, their activism, which is at the frontline of the war and the climate crisis, leads to sustainable and just peace.
