The COP27 report from the KAIROS and FLC delegation is out now!
A report on the KAIROS / For the Love of Creation delegation to COP27 is now available. The report from this 10-person delegation framed around decolonizing climate action details key outcomes impacts on public engagement in Canada, media coverage, lessons learned and more. Taking a 10-person delegation halfway around the world for 8 days, to attend the largest climate conference on the globe is no small accomplishment. Congratulations to all involved!
As KAIROS began to plan with The United Church of Canada and For the Love of Creation (FLC), we each found our niche. FLC recruited, selected, and supported two youth delegates. UCC provided accreditation. We received a generous grant from the Ontario Public Service Employees (OPSEU) as well as funding from KAIROS Women, Peace and Security program and FLC member churches. FLC took the lead role in engaging Canadians, through the Animators Circle, Candles for COP activities, and social media work. KAIROS looked after the delegation logistics, media, advocacy, as well as accompaniment and engagement on the ground. A collective highlight was the entire delegation’s involvement in delivering the KAIROS Blanket Exercise at COP27 under the leadership of Clifford Mushquash.
The delegation also included four women peacebuilders and environmental defenders from the Global South who have been partners of KAIROS’ Women of Courage: Women, Peace and Security (WPS) program and more recently the emerging work on gender, conflict and climate. Through meetings and events, KAIROS’ WPS partners brilliantly presented their contexts and work as local peacebuilders, addressing the climate crisis, ongoing conflict and gender violence.
