One year later: Canadian churches call for action on Gaza

On the one-year anniversary of the Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage, a broad coalition of Canadian church leaders representing over four million people has written to Prime Minister Mark Carney. Their message is urgent and unified: Canada must act now to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
Despite sustained calls for peace and accountability, the situation has worsened dramatically. This ecumenical letter reflects deep concern over Canada’s continued failure to meet its legal and moral obligations under international law.
The letter calls for:
- An immediate, enduring and sustained ceasefire.
- Immediate flow of life-saving food, water, aid, fuel and humanitarian assistance.
- Release of all captives.
- A comprehensive, binding two-way arms embargo on Israel, including closing loopholes (i.e. Canadian arms exports to Israel via the United States
- Ending Israel’s deepening military occupation and annexation of Palestine so a just peace can begin.
It builds on longstanding partnerships with churches and human rights organizations in the region and reaffirms the churches’ commitment to peace with justice. Read the full letter below and join us in calling for bold, compassionate Canadian leadership.
