What We Do MIGRANT JUSTICE

Migrants, regardless of their legal and employment status, possess an inherent human dignity that should be respected, and basic human needs that must be met.

All migrants, regardless of status, are entitled to dignity and fundamental human rights.

KAIROS stands with migrants and refugees, affirming their inherent dignity and defending their rights. We confront the root causes of forced migration and push for policies that guarantee justice and fair treatment for all. Central to this commitment is ensuring the implementation of international conventions that protect migrant workers and their families.

In Canada, we challenge immigration policies that enable exploitation and press for reforms that ensure equal access to social services and labour rights. We call for permanent residency for all migrant workers and full regularization for those who are undocumented.

Our work builds solidarity between migrant and Indigenous communities, advances racial justice and strengthens local networks of support.

Abolish Closed Work Permits: Right now, many migrant workers in Canada are tied to a single employer through “closed work permits.” This system makes it nearly impossible for workers to leave abusive or unsafe jobs without risking deportation. It creates conditions for exploitation, wage theft and fear of retaliation. We call on Canada to replace closed work permits with open work permits that give migrant workers the freedom to change employers and protect their rights. Add your name to the petition ›

Stop Bill C-2: Bill C-2 is proposed federal legislation that would expand policing and border enforcement powers against migrants. If passed, it would increase surveillance, criminalization and deportations, putting already vulnerable communities at greater risk. Migrants need protection and rights, not punishment. Meet your Member of Parliament and learn more about the campaign and how you can help stop this harmful bill. Take action here ›

Controls, Not Protections (2025)
This national report by the Migrant Rights Network shows how Canada’s recent “reforms” to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program fail to address systemic exploitation. Instead of protecting workers, they expand employer control and deepen precarity. Read the full report here ›
